NOISES
IN THE NIGHT
© 2008 Glynis M. Belec
A
rumble in the darkness
Sends
shivers up my back
A
creeping, growling creature
Prepares
for its attack
I
cannot see the snarling face
For
darkness is its fleece
The
ghastly sound intensifies
And
shatters night-time peace.
The labored
breath and whining pitch
Fills
my heart with dread
I
clutch the blankets to my throat
And
curl up in my bed.
I
cannot take it any more
The
noise consumes the night
I
toss the bedding on the floor
I
must be brave and fight.
My
slow methodic steps are few
I
open up the door
I
walk towards the gruesome sound
Not
knowing what’s in store.
It’s
coming from my parent’s room
I
cannot stand this roaring
I
burst inside…but wait…what’s this?
…
It’s
only Daddy snoring!
